The microblogging website announced this in a post on its own platform saying, “Twitter is thrilled to announce we are bringing the Twitter for iPad experience to the Mac! The all-new Twitter for Mac will be in development this summer in preparation for an early launch on macOS 10.15 Catalina.” According to a report by The Verge, the company made the announcement during Apple’s WWDC conference saying that the app would launch with Catalina and this new version would have a variety of features like dark mode, keyboard shortcuts, multiple windows, and notifications. To recall, Twitter had discontinued its Mac desktop application in February 2018. After Apple unveiled Project Catalyst for macOS 10.15 Catalina, the company said that it’s bringing the program back. In a post, the company also explained why it decided to discontinue the app last year. It says that historically, Twitter had a Mac app that shared the same roots as its app for iPhone. Over the years, Twitter for Mac and Twitter for iOS diverged as the company increasingly focused on its mobile apps. The company has also added that supporting the two separate codebases was no longer a sustainable option it and because of this, it ultimately had to close down the native Mac app. Apple has also announced Project Catalyst for macOS 10.15 Catalina, that will make it easy for developers to bring their iPad projects to macOS as native Mac apps. The Cupertino-based technology giant’s Project Catalyst is Apple’s initiative to help developers port their iOS apps into Mac.
Speaking about it, Twitter also added, “We are excited that Project Catalyst will enable us to bring Twitter back to the Mac by leveraging our existing iOS codebase. We’ll also be able to add native Mac features on top of our existing iPad experience while keeping our maintenance efficient as we continue to improve this shared codebase in the years to come.” Mac users are some of the most involved people on Twitter, and the app meant for the device has all the feature similar to Twitter’s other platforms. Some platform-specific features are also expected to be present. Mac users can Expect things like resizable windows with dynamic content, multiple windows support, native notifications, drag & drop and keyboard support. There may even be a few newer exciting features for the desktop. For the latest gadget and tech news, and gadget reviews, follow us on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
