The company introduced Spotify Audiobooks through its official blog post which said, “The Spotify you know and love is getting a lot bigger with the addition of a catalogue of content that users have been requesting for years: audiobooks.” According to the company, audiobooks represent just a 6%–7% share of the wider book market, the category is growing by 20% year over year. The company further added, “But what we’re really excited about is providing a great new experience for listeners—introducing audiobooks to an audience of people who may never have tried them otherwise. By bringing audiobooks to Spotify, we have the opportunity to both grow the space as a whole and enrich listeners’ lives.” In addition to music and podcasts, users in the US may easily locate audiobooks on Spotify as a section in their library, during searches, and in their personalised Home suggestions. The play button for audiobooks will display a lock icon, indicating that they must be purchased before being listened to. Users will be able to buy audiobooks they find in the Spotify app on a website. The book will be instantly saved in their library when they come back to Spotify and will be accessible at any time. Along with being able to download content for offline listening, listeners can also instantly resume where they left off thanks to the automatic bookmarking tool. Additionally, there is a speed control feature with numerous possibilities to quicken or slow down the pace. Spotify has also added a rating feature for readers who wish to offer their thoughts after listening to a book. This feature will make the overall rating of the book visible to everyone.
