The Colorize feature coming to the Google Photos was received well by the audience at the Google I/O 2019 and it will be released soon. But the search giant hasn’t given an official date and time of the new update. The product lead of Google Photos, David Lieb also said that the Colorize feature is still in its beta phase now but he didn’t reveal the timeline of the launch. Lieb took to Twitter to announce that the feature wasn’t ready for a commercial release yet. According to him, Colorize is still in works and the company doesn’t want to release it, before fine-tuning all the loopholes. Lieb also posted a video on his Twitter account showcasing the Colorize feature and how it works. In the video, Lieb used a black and white picture of his 104 year old grandfather’s wedding photo. Using the Colorize feature of the Google Photos, he tried to fill it with colours and managed to colour his grandpa’s pants to pink. He also wrote, “You can see we have some work to do; my grandfather didn’t wear pink pants to his wedding!”
Other than the Colorize feature, the California-based search giant also announced a Color Pop feature for the Google Photos. And the company also released the Color Pop feature for select Android users after its announcement. Unlike the Colorize feature, the Color Pop feature of Google Photos transforms the background of a picture to black and white. It uses Artificial Intelligence (AI) and while the background will turn black and white, the subject in the picture will still be in colour.
